1. People ask climbers, "Why do you climb those hills, mountains?
Typically, we climbers respond, "Because they are there." I climbed Mt.
Whitney because it was there.
2. Life is a hill, a mountain. "Why do we climb it? Because it is there?
No. There is much more to life than just doing something for the sake of
doing it.
3. Does one play to win or not to lose? To jump or not to hit the ground
too hard?
4. Maintain perspective.
5. This year I resigned as the Chairman of the Board of a Philanthropic
organization. It is doing better than ever without me.
6. Met a lady who loves horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks. She and I
ride together. Not on the ducks, the horses.
7. Picked up rain drenched trash on the street. One piece of the trash was
an envelope. I could not read it for the rain damage to it. When I opened
it to place it in its owner's hands, it was a check for almost $1,000.00.
The check was for me. Justice.
8. I was treated with honor by a dentist when there was honor to be honored.
Justice again.
9. I broke several ribs on the left side early in the year. Healed
completely through prayer. I jumped.
10. Formed "The Angels Charitable Foundation" with a partner. My partner is
sharp.
11. By the gracious care of a wonderful lady, my Skipper did well while I
was in Savoy, Illinois and St Auban, France.
12. Was cared for by my fence neighbors who give me hot meals and kind
words.
13. Had two articles published in the University of Advancing Technology
Journal, one on language and one on ethics.
14. Shared dances with a lady who makes dancing a joy.
15. Bought a business suit. First in some 25 years or so.
16. My x-wife and her mother prepared both Thanksgiving and Christmas
dinners for guests at my home. Is that wonderful? It is.
17. Broke several ribs on the right side later in the year. Healed again by
prayer. Just love to jump.18. My neighbors look after me daily. Give me things, neat things, help me
when I ask. Is that wonderful? It is.
19. Traveled to Marseille, France. Glad to be home.
20. Sang harmony to a hymn with others listening. I jumped and landed all
ribs intact.
21. Formed another charitable foundation with my son, Ryan, "The Charity
Foundation".
22. A wonderful lady volunteered to edit my articles. I am honored.
23. Two dear friends sold their muffler shop. Will miss them.
24. Know two attorneys that are not only very clever, but have good hearts.
25. Learned some 52 new dance steps.
26. A friend on a survival ranch killed a poaching mountain lion with a .22.
27. Conducted about 70 church services
28. I can feel the cost, and it has more value than I ever knew. Church
members make the difference.
29. Traded in my salt and pepper beard for an all salt.
30. Did not trade in my 1984 Seville for a 2006 Chrysler 300. Cash got
short.
31. Watched my mother in law be the finest of ladies as she cares for her
ailing husband.
32. Walked the same walk for nearly 365 days, with my Skipper.
33. Was given a new sofa and love seat by church members.
34. Over the past year, I have had more people bless me than I can ever
remember. Something has changed.
35. Since 1980, I have had no human assignment desk. It takes discipline to
be free.
36. Performed a Christian Science marriage for a Catholic family on the
bluffs of Torry Pines in San Diego. Went divinely well.
37. Learned how to speed-up a slow computer.
38. I met with some of my gymnastic boys recently. They are some 30 years
old.
39. Danced with broken ribs. Probably not the best idea. Jumped again.
40. Is life serious?
41. If not now, when?
42. Are we important?
43. If not we, who?
44. Does "who" say the same thing?
45. When I was a preteen, there was a hill in San Diego that I climbed on my
bicycle. To make it up the hill, I switched back and forth to decrease the
angle of attack and make the assent easier. I could not make it going
straight up. Today, I could make it straight up. I have climbed hills even
steeper.
46. Here comes 2007. It may be a steep one for some of us. And yet, have
not our experiences up through 2006 made us stronger?
47. See you on the hill.
