Differences -- Big Ones

Our new Treasury secretary, Hank Paulson left his $38,000,000.00 job at Goldman Sachs for what is being called a paltry salary with the US Government. His new piddling yearly compensation is $200,000.00. But then again, how many of us can do what he is doing. Can we divide our last year’s salary by 190 and still live. That is sacrifice.

My mother said to me that it takes more effort to lie than to tell the truth. That and a sewing machine got her $00.30 per hour work. Ah but today. A possible liar lies with his head in an MRI machine and pushes a button to answer yes-no questions as they are flashed on a screen. The machine measures brain activity, focusing on areas that are believed to show extra exertion when a lie is generated. Specially designed software grades the test. The company charges $30.00 per minute to see that it takes more work to lie.

When people do the correct thing, it is called responsibility. When Foundations do the correct thing is call morality. Then there is irresponsibility and immorality.

Some people when they are about to die, think of those they love. Others think if they are loved by anyone. To those in the latter group, rest assured, you are loved, where ever you are, when ever you are there. You are loved.

Cultures are different, not by percents but by magnitudes. To the Jews, in Biblical times, those with Lepersy were outcasts. They were treated as lower class citizens. But not so the Syrians. The commander of the army of the king of Aram was a leper. He was not outcast. He was a superior officer in the country. He also was healed by Elisha. Jesus too healed lepers. Jesus made a point of Elisha’s healing saying that God cares for all. People are like nations, they vary by magnitudes. There are 1s, 10s, 100s, and 1,000s. What is so great is that we can live together as different as we are. If our rules of life are significantly different, we need space between us.

Never should we ever put someone out of our misery.

Nor should a country.

A new country. Really. Podgorica. It was Montenegro that broke from Serbia to form Podgorica. Today, 2006 our world has a new country. They desired independence, and by vote they got it. Know what that means? It means those who voted against it cooperated. A consummated deal does not depend so much on those that win as it does on those that lose.
