At Risk?

by

Leo Crocker Rogers

What puts us most at risk? Living on a cliff on the California coast? Driving to work? Being married?

Or could it be breaking something?

There are those that are on the inside wishing to be on the outside, and there are those on the outside wishing to be on the inside. What kind of sense does that make? Nonsense.

What is reality? Seriously!

Newtonian life.

No?

Then Einsteinian life.

No?

Quantum mechanical life.

No?

Reality is not relative. It does not depend. Reality is. Always has been. Always will be. The same yesterday and today and forever.

The benchmark of a civil society is the quality of its justice system. If you try to bring democracy to a non-justice society, it is like trying to make rocks fly. Folks. That just won’t happen.

I saw (on t.v.) a man shot in a fire fight. He did not know he was hit until a comrade told him. Unbelievable? I was mountain biking up a steep hill. I had failed in this attempt twice before, but I wanted to try again today. It did not look that steep. In my effort, I lost speed, and 3/4 of the way up, I stalled out. On soft dirt, the bike started to give way and we semi dumped but I was able to hold on. But it was a banging incident. Then getting down was no easy task, and I took some hits there too. No big deal. I completed my ride happily. Two days later, someone looked at my arm and said. "Do you know you are really banged up?" I looked. I had really taken a hit. I looked other places. Big bangs there too. Hurt? Not at the time. Not now. The man who was shot felt nothing either. He was on task. I believe his comment was, "How about that." No big deal. Being on task is a joy.

When we are so busy that we cannot find God, we really think we are something. When we are so busy that we cannot take 4 hours a week to go to church we define intransigent. Silly us.

Addicted to poverty? Kick the habit. Get a life.

We may not be the best player on the team. But for sure, we should never even lean in the direction of giving the game away. The same goes for life. Never give it away.

When we get to the point of saying, "How did I ever get here? Why me? What did I do to deserve this?" There is one intelligent thing to do. Keep getting close to God. Doggedly if that is what it takes. The path will become clear.

The answer to what puts us most at risk is: Breaking ......... breaking the First Commandment. Intransigently, we hold the position which puts at the highest risk. Silly us.

Living is the only thing that matters. Otherwise we may as well be dead. Are we up to living, or do we just pretend. There is a wonderful Russian saying: "You pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work."

I love three word sayings: "Just do it." "Now is forever." "Make it so." The reason I love three worders is that the message is not only succinct, but it is directly to the point in a myriad of ways. Simultaneously, we get both the point, the principle, and the care, the love. And both come quickly. Then, there are some two word sentences that are even more uplifting. Here is the one for this evening.

God delivers.
